Maintenance and Warranty

Important information:

  • Leather may feel slightly stiff at first, but this is simply a sign of good, strong leather quality. It is therefore IMPORTANT that you apply leather oil 3-4 times before use and allow it to absorb for 1-2 days.
  • Be sure NOT to apply too much leather oil on girth straps and wool panels, as this could make the leather too soft.
  • Avoid getting leather oil on lacquered details, as these may lose their shine. If the saddle squeaks, apply leather oil between the leather layers, such as between the saddle tree and panels. Squeaking is usually caused by dry leather rubbing against leather.

Maintenance

Cleaning and Oiling

Periodically treat the saddle with leather oil and leather balm. When the saddle gets dirty, clean it with mild soapy water using soap designed for wool. After cleaning, apply some leather oil or balm when the saddle is slightly damp and let it dry at room temperature. Use leather oil on dry or exposed areas, such as the saddle flaps.

Avoid Direct Sunlight

Protect the saddle from being stored in direct sunlight or in high heat. Sunlight can affect the color, and intense heat can dry out the leather.

Storage

Store the saddle in a room with a stable temperature and not too much humidity.

Use a mounting block or switch sides when mounting

Use a mounting block or switch sides when mounting. It is natural for the saddle to become slightly skewed over time, as both the rider and horse have a strong and weak side. To protect the saddle from further skewing, use a mounting block when getting on, or switch sides when mounting.

Warranty

  • Draupnir offers a 10-year warranty on the saddle tree.
  • Draupnir offers a 1-year warranty on the leatherwork of the saddle.
  • Draupnir does not provide warranty coverage for saddles where external factors — such as stirrup straps, zippers/stitching on riding boots, or other external items — have caused damage to the leather.
  • Leather, stitching, wool, and foam are living materials that may shift under pressure and use. In a used saddle, it can be difficult to determine if any misalignment is due to wear or a manufacturing defect. Draupnir will not replace misalignment in a saddle unless it is definitively proven to be a manufacturing defect.
