Draupnir has developed a unique saddle pad with a correction system in collaboration with Mattes. This pad provides excellent opportunities for individual saddle adjustments, whether you ride one horse or several with different conformation. By using our saddle pad, you can adjust the saddle’s balance along the entire length of the horse’s back, not just in the front. This is particularly useful for riders who ride multiple horses, as the pad makes it easy to adjust the saddle for each horse without losing optimal balance.
Our correction system includes inserts in the front, middle, and back, with the ability to adjust the inserts between transitions. The inserts are made from 0.5 cm thick material that can easily be cut to achieve the best possible fit. There is no Velcro in the pad itself, which makes it easy to position the inserts without friction or disturbance to the horse. The inserts are designed not to interfere with the spinal canal, ensuring adequate space and freedom over the withers.
The saddle pad is fastened to the saddle in the front with Velcro, helping lift the pad away from the spine and further free the horse’s back. For additional stability, the pad can be supplied with Mattes’ Salfix, which ensures that the pad stays clear of the spine along the entire length of the saddle.
Saddle pads are available in both cotton and genuine sheepskin, and each pad comes with three inserts per pocket for flexible adjustments.
Draupnir believes that our correction system through the saddle pad offers the best solution for fitting our saddles. While other methods exist, such as heating the saddle tree or interchangeable tree irons, we have chosen to focus on our correction solution. Heating the saddle tree is not suitable for our saddles as it would affect the tree’s special properties. We previously tested interchangeable tree irons but found they didn’t meet our goal of creating a tree without metal to ensure consistent qualities throughout the entire tree.
With our saddle pad, you can easily correct any imbalances; for example, if one side of the horse is lower, you can use the inserts to balance it. If you have multiple horses, we recommend choosing a saddle that fits the widest horse and using our correction pad for the other horses.
